I was adopted at birth and spent many years and finally located my birth family! Although I have since lost one sister (my adopted sister) I have gained a sister (a birth sister) I will be updating my adoption story and search for my birth rights pretty soon, I was originally given up for adoption at the tender age of 2 weeks old, the family I was placed with were unfortunately not of the same religion and although they apparently attempted to adopt me, I was taken away by the authorities at the age of 14 months to be placed in a more 'suitable' family environment! I still search for the wonderful family that fostered me for my first important 14 months of life, alas I have nothing to go on in this search and until information comes to hand, have had to put this search on hold. After 33 years getting no where with my searches, my older (also adopted) sister finally admitted that she knew my original birth name. Okay, initial disbelief and shock that my parents had known all along, was quickly overcome by glee! ... But how comes the sister had access to my own personal confidential information yet I was not privileged enough to have had this knowledge%3F I had always considered my original birth details as a missing piece of puzzle, only a couple of pieces of blue sky, not essential to the completion of the puzzle, but would be nice to put them in place and finish it off.... and I did! |

Although I have been told I was in the Norwood Childrens home for around 2 weeks, records of this event are non existent! I do remember Norwood as when I was 5 years old, we went there before they tore down the old original building to collect a brother!
Because I had allegedly been in the kind care of a family for the first 14 months then taken away obviously at very short notice, apparently I was fretting in the home and my new mother was given a call by Matron Levy to come and collect this fretting 14 month old and foster her until she is adopted!
What a shock I must have been suffering! Although I do not believe for one moment that I have suffered this early experience, it makes me sad that I cannot find the family who loved me so much that I still feel that love today!
I have managed to find a very old photo of Norwood childrens home and although remember it being slightly different to this photo, I seem to remember it clearly. I remember a huge wide fantastic staircase to the upper floor and remember a feeling of being awestruck by it!
I remember the newer building where me and my adopted sister went in to the nursery while our adopted mother spoke with the Matron of the home.
I have not been able to find any information on the web regarding the superb work and love given by Matron Levy of Norwood Jewish Childrens Home and I was told she had died two years after she passed away.
I remember matron Levy as a fantastic lady, heavily accented and had to walk with the aid of walking sticks, who even after she retired could not stop her work and took to helping the elderly at an old age peoples home even though most were 20 years younger than herself!

i am truly sorry for the recent crash of this forum i am attempting to rebuild it and i hope it will be all back online asap! here are a couple copies of photos i received from Matron Levy a long time ago of Norwood Childrens Home, I have recently talked to a Private Detective who has come up with some very good ideas regarding my fruitless search for the foster family who fostered me for the first 14 months of my life in the meantime, i am temporarily residing in Bulgaria working on a new project far from adoption! enjoy all these sites and feel free to post your adoption experiences on this online forum set up just for you

although my new life in Bulgaria has increased my general happiness, it still niggles me as to where i was fostered for the first fourteen months of my life. recently i met a woman who fostered children, (for a living). a lot of my energies have been put to finding these two caring people who fostered me, the couple of fosterer parents i recently met, put me off a tad, and made me realise that i maybe living in cloud cookoo land in attempting to search these people down. the couple i met were heavy drinkers, spending their earnings, from fostering, on holidays while attempting to buy a real cheap house in Bulgaria. although perhaps they are quite caring foster parents, i would not like to find out that the foster parents who cared for me for 14 months were heavy drinkers fostering me purely to fuel their drinking habits! i didnt have much of a delusion regarding my birth mother, so wasn't disappointed when i finally found her, but i have huge delusions of why my foster mother was taking care of me, and huge delusions that she cared so much, and made me the caring person i am today, if it was revealed that to not be the truth i would indeed not be too happy so was this a sign to give up my search? |

I will always have the memories of when my parents made my older sister tell me that i was different to normal children, that normal children had just come to be with their parents, with no choice involved, that i was special as i was a chosen child (my 'older' sister was three years older than myself, i would have been less than 6 years old when i was informed i was adopted, which means she would have been less than 9 years old) each time i tried to talk to my parents about who i was pre adoption, only resulted in me being told they had no further information but that my birth mother was only 15 years old and had run away with a boy from borstal and her family made her give me up. they informed me, quite believably too, that they had no knowledge of my original birth name, this proved to be untruthful at a later date after they had given this knowledge to my older sister they had apparently passed over this information when her own younger sister had located her from Australia and come to the UK to meet her. A totally awful experience for everyone as she didn't have any good feelings for this unknown sister and was extremely irate at being found. i believe that we choose who we are and who we choose to be born to before we are created! i chose to be born to a mother who was to give me up almost at birth, i chose to be with a foster family who ingrained in me a lot of who i am today, then i chose to be with the adoptive family, who i consider to be my real family alas my mother - adoptive mother - did not take too well to my finding my birth family and especially not finding my birth sister, which is a shame, if only my mother and father had given me the support i required to know my birth name, of which they always knew and could have given me that vital information years before my success in finding my birth family roots, if only eh, if only they had revealed that information and helped me in my search, they could today be sharing the wonderful love of my birth sister and the love that i will always have for them... my real parents |
